The HAL Tejas is a single-engine, fourth-generation, multirole light combat aircraft developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). It represents India's most ambitious indigenous defence program.
Make in India Triumph
The Tejas program began in 1983 as the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project. After decades of development, the aircraft achieved Final Operational Clearance (FOC) in 2019 and entered IAF squadron service.
Combat Capabilities
The Tejas Mark 1A features an AESA radar, advanced electronic warfare suite, air-to-air refueling capability, and can carry a wide range of weaponry including BVR missiles. It is designed for air superiority, ground attack, and reconnaissance missions.
Export Potential
India has received expressions of interest from several countries including Malaysia, Egypt, and Argentina. The Tejas Mark 2, with a more powerful engine and enhanced capabilities, is under development.
